I am a father of three amazing kids. My eldest Zachary is in 7th grade at North Kirkwood Middle School, Oliver is in 5th grade at Keysor and Daphne is in 2nd grade at Keysor.
I am married to Ashley Davis (Miller), who led me to Kirkwood in 2012. It was important for both of us to return to the neighborhood where she grew up, and are over the moon to have our kids at the same schools she attended!
And let's not forget Moira Rose, our amazing Sheepadoodle.
That is an answer that goes back to the last election, where I came up short. I joined that race following the uncertainty that unfolded as the district released its boundary plans. That summer I spent a lot of time and effort creating a great boundary plan. I was at a loss when the district dropped the debate.
I declared my candidacy on the first possible day, and since then have been in attendance at almost all of the board meetings both work sessions and business meetings. I have been in attendance and met the superintendent and his cabinet. I have listened to the discussion and presentations from administrators and contractors alike. I can assure you that I am the only challenging candidate that has been there. I can also say, that having come close to a seat at the table, I oft wish I could join the conversations.
That is why I am again in the running for 2025!
I continue to believe that my spirit, background and experience will be a perfect addition to the board.
I am a helper. I am always looking for opportunities to serve. I am a data analyst, reformer and presenter. I can identify and describe trends in data. I have a degree in Finance and in Economics. I am also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). I am comfortable reading financial reports, and understand what each means. I also prescribe to a strong code of ethics.
I am a product of public High School, but not Kirkwood. I grew up just West of Cleveland OH. My city was densely populated and my HS had 600+ kids per grade. I can confidently say that Kirkwood is doing an amazing job for our kids.
We have seen in data presentations that the population of kids in Kirkwood continues to decline. Add the fact that St. Louis county is seeing outflows as well, and we may have decisions to make about how we utilize our spaces. Could additional pre-k classrooms open? Could the spaces for special use find new special uses? The answer to these and many other questions drive my desire to sit on the board and serve the stakeholders of the Kirkwood School District.
The KSD is doing amazing things for our community and students. I am excited about the Success Ready Student Network, and the way it aims to teach to the student and not the grade. I am happy to see the teachers comfortable asking for help and having their voices heard. I hope that we can find a way to provide parental leave for our staff, as they have said ahead of contract negotiations. The administrative teams at each school are working well together and each school is heading in a great direction. The strategic vision of the district is great, and ideas of how to make each point brighter are always coming to life.
I do see areas of opportunity as we look ahead.
